Allison Russell Portland Concert reviews
George was great!
It was a drop-dead beautiful night, an enthusiastic (and very stoned) crowd and, after all, it was Red Rocks, so it had to be a good night. Unfortunately, the performance of Allison Russell was not as good as some of us hoped. Santana can still play as well as ever, but it would have been nice to actually hear the music. George Lopez was at his best, and had us laughing hard. And when he began spouting his political poison - intentionally insulting almost half the audience - it cast a shadow on the remaining show, even though everyone knew it was coming. I realize concerts today are all high-tech, glitzy, and very loud, but it was still a bit disappointing not to hear the "real" Santana, even for a little bit. There were many in the audience old enough to remember him from his early years. It's might be better to buy the CD and just remember Santana when he was still great. He chose to ignore us and play only one of his classic numbers. I would think twice about paying $100 to see him again.
